Windows XP on Intel Macs using Apple Boot Camp
When the first Intel Core-based Macs came out and people were asking if they could ever run Windows on it, Apple's response what they don't support it, but they won't do anything to stop it either. However, the decision to use EFI instead of BIOS basically stopped it from happening on a hardware level. Today Apple released a beta of Boot Camp, which enables dynamic,... more »
My New iPod
I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a new 5th generation iPod. Yes it's the 'video iPod' but I'll stick with Apple's terminology. I've had my 10GB 2nd gen iPod for just over 3 years now, having received it as a Christmas present from my dad. With each new iPod that was released since, I've been tempted but just couldn't justify getting a... more »
iTunes Australia
It's about 2 weeks since Australia got its own version of the iTunes Music Store. It had a few glitches in the opening week with pricing of some albums still being adjusted, and some other oddities like tracks being labelled as 'Album Only' purchases, yet where the 'Buy Album' button should be, it says you can only buy it "By Song Only". Despite launching without... more »
New PowerBooks, Power Macs, Aperture
Wow, has Christmas come early this year? Hot on the heels of the new, very impressive iMac G5, the iPod that plays video, and the sexy little iPod nano not long before that, today Apple introduces updates to both its Pro lines, and then some. The new PowerBooks sport higher resolution screens and improved battery life, while still retaining the G4 processor. The Power Mac... more »
A Very mini Macworld
The last round of product releases by Apple at Macworld San Francisco on the 11th were pretty amazing. The iPod shuffle is amazingly tiny, about the size of a normal thumb drive, and priced very similar too, to such devices without an integrated player. Although I'd personally not be interested in getting one of my own, I'm sure I'd appeal to a lot of... more »
New iPod
I know this is really old news now but Apple's new, 4th Generation iPod is fantastic. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, they've brought out one with the awesome 'click-wheel' introduced on the iPod mini. Talk about minimalism, the removal of everything but the bare essentials, and it works great still. They've also made it even thinner and lighter, while improving battery... more »
ecto, now on Windows
I've been using Kung-Log to post to my blog for a while, and a couple of weeks back I found out that it had received a major overhaul, as well as getting a new name -- ecto. Unfortunately it had also become shareware and I had been using it in 'trial' mode until this morning the nag screen refused to let me run the app... more »

... and a half
I can't believe it. After yesterday's bonus meatball, it happened again today! I went to Safeway (a supermarket) and bought half a roasted chicken to eat for dinner, but upon opening the paperbag, lo and behold I find a whole chicken in there. Double checking the price label showed that I only paid for the half-chicken. Today I also picked up my replacement PowerBook battery... more »
Plus One
Don't you always secretly wish that when you buy a 6-piece pack of Chicken McNuggets, or a 10-piece plate of Swedish meatballs, they would miscount and give you an extra nugget or meatball? Well that wish came true today for me and I got 11 Swedish meatballs for the price of 10. Too bad i didn't bring my camera out today to provide you with... more »

Benchmarks, Schmenchmarks
Not even 24 hours after the G5 was announced, people around the web have started refuting Apple's claims on the apparent speed of their new flagship computer. Oh well, these people just haven't learnt not to trust ANY benchmarks put out by computer-makers. I dare you to find me a page on AMD or Intel's web site that shows the benchmark performance of their processors... more »

Powerbook is back (again)
Yay. It finally came back from service today, for TWO weeks. And the guy whom I picked it up from didn't even know what was done to it cos it was sent down to KL and nothing was mentioned in the report. Oh well. Sometime earlier in the week when I called to ask I was told it had a motherboard swap and they had... more »

It's ALIVE...
Guess what? I'm posting this from my PowerBook again. This morning 9:15am I called up AppleCare and spent about 45 mins on the phone with a tech in Australia before determining it was not a software issue and I had to send it in to an Apple Service Provider, which conveniently enough, there was one in Ipoh. So I did. Fast forward to 5:30pm I... more »

New AppleCenter in Kuala Lumpur
The latest addition to Apple retail presence arrived on 1st March 2003 with the opening of an AppleCenter in the Great Eastern Mall along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. I didn't manage to attend the grand opening but went there the following day on 2nd March. It is a huge store taking up 2 shop lots in the mall, but it's quite sparse inside. The interior... more »
The Evolution of Apple?
Some years back, in 1999 if i remember correctly, there was a rumour going around about a new Apple initiative or possible ad campaign, because someone found out that the domain mammals.org not only redirected to Apple, but was also registered to Apple Computer, Inc. of 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino. It was around the same time that Apple announced Mac OS X and Darwin being... more »

The New iMac
Apple Computer just recently launched a long-awaited update to the iMac. What a gorgeous thing it is. It appears that their engineering feats with the ill-fated Cube wasn't in vain, as they managed to squeeze everything into a 10" hemisphere. As different this new iMac is to its predecessor, it still retains a quality of the old iMac: People looking at it for the first... more »
