Still alive

I'm still around in case anybody is wondering. Sorry for the lack of updates, but things have just been so crazy busy since I got back from the UK in September. I can't believe it's less than a week till Christmas, and how quickly it's crept up. Didn't seem so long ago I was scoffing and how ridiculous the department stores started putting up Christmas... more »

Nintendo DS Lite

I've done the video game geek thing and went out this morning to the city to be one of the first in Australia to get my grubby hands on the pristine Polar White Nintendo DS Lite. There were no block-long queues like in Japan, or the opening of an Apple Store, though. The first place I went to was EB Games in Melbourne Central, where... more »

For Sale

I've decided I'm going to get a Nintendo DS Lite which would be available in Australia tomorrow, 1st June 2006. I've listed my Nintendo DS on eBay, so if anybody is interested in getting a pre-loved NDS, go take a look. It's in good condition, with only a few scuffs and scratches. I'm also thinking of selling my GameCube, which I've not touched for a... more »

Digital TV

I've jumped onto the Digital TV bandwagon. Last week I ordered the DNTV Live! DVB-T Pro tuner card for my old (but still going strong) Shuttle SFF PC. It's said to be one of the better cards on the market, and works well with Windows XP Media Center Edition, as well as its own bundled DNTV Live! software. Installing and setting up the card was... more »

My New iPod

I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a new 5th generation iPod. Yes it's the 'video iPod' but I'll stick with Apple's terminology. I've had my 10GB 2nd gen iPod for just over 3 years now, having received it as a Christmas present from my dad. With each new iPod that was released since, I've been tempted but just couldn't justify getting a... more »

New PowerBooks, Power Macs, Aperture

Wow, has Christmas come early this year? Hot on the heels of the new, very impressive iMac G5, the iPod that plays video, and the sexy little iPod nano not long before that, today Apple introduces updates to both its Pro lines, and then some. The new PowerBooks sport higher resolution screens and improved battery life, while still retaining the G4 processor. The Power Mac... more »

Some thoughts on the iPod nano

Apple released the iPod nano last week and having now seen the photos and read reviews of people who actually got it in their hands (and destroyed and dissected it), I've got some thoughts about it. I wasn't very impressed with the looks at first. One of the things that struck me was the proportions. It is narrower than the iPod mini it replaces, thus... more »

My iPod is dying (maybe?)

Yesterday morning before I left for the office, I was updating the songs on my iPod when it started whirring loudly. It sounded like the high-pitched hum and whirr of a failing hard disk. Picking it up, the iPod felt like it was getting warmer. I quickly unmounted it from the Mac and rebooted the iPod, only to be greeted with the gut-wrenching folder-with-exclamation-mark... more »

Paper Discs

The technological advancements coming out of Japan never ceases to amaze me. This time, it's something a bit high-tech and low-tech at the same time... Paper-based optical discs. With 51% paper content, it allows "a high level of artistic label printing" as well as being easily destructible for sensitive information. The discs use 'blu-ray' technology which squeezes 25GB of data. So much for the paper-less... more »

Oh nooo... the temptation...

shucks... after the accident with my Clié, the thought of getting an replacement has gone through my mind and i was contemplating a few of the current Bluetooth or Wi-Fi enabled PalmOS units from Sony and Palm. Then someone on MyPDACafe suggested i check out the new Clié UX50. This was just announced in Japan last week and i believe the US announcement is gonna... more »

Cracked Clié

(Click for larger image) Aarrrghh... about 15 mins ago i dropped my Clié. I was moving my notebook around my room and forgot that the PDA was tethered to it with the USB Hotsync cable and it just fell flat on it's face on the floor. Upon examining, my worst fears were confirmed.. the glass screen was indeed cracked, but luckily not across the... more »

moblogging

After a few unsuccessful attempts previously to connect to wapblogger using my Nokia 6210, today I tried again and by golly, I managed to login to my own blog! Thus I've managed to make a post and in the euphoria of it all, I whipped out my index template and put it in its own 'mini me' box on the right column. I wonder if... more »

My New Computer

On 27th of November, I bought myself a new PC, comprising of the cool, tiny Shuttle XPC SS51G casing pictured. It's what's called a barebones system, comes with just the aluminium casing, power supply and motherboard. I topped it up with a Pentium 4(A) 1.8 Ghz processor, 256 MB of DDR333 RAM, 80 GB Western Digital (8MB cache) Hard Drive, Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM and... more »

Wireless Publishing

Hello world! This is my first posting from a public wireless access point, or otherwise known as a 'hotspot'. I'm now in San Francisco Coffee in Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya, that very recently gone 'live'. The service is provided by Airzed. It's free for now, but still requires registration and login to access the system, but i'm sure it will become a pay-per-use system eventually.... more »

I'm wireless *wheee*

oh, and on an unrelated note, i ordered a pair of Airport cards for cheap from Other World Computing and installed them in my G4 tower and powerbook, and thanks to OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), my powermac can function as a 'software base station', becoming a wireless AP for my powebook. It's so liberation being able to be online anywhere in the house now, as... more »
