If snowfall is a sign of the arrival of winter, then it's here already. Falls Creek, one of the Victorian ski resorts, got 20-30 cms of snow last night, a full 7 weeks before the winter ski season officially starts. While it doesn't snow in Melbourne itself, it was a wet and soggy day yesterday when I went out house-hunting, and though there wasn't any rain today, it was cool and crisp. I've seen a few nice places yesterday and today, and already put in an application for a 2BR apartment in St Kilda East. It's nice and spacious, with good light coming in through nice big windows in all rooms. It's an older-style apartment block but it looks well maintained and has been recently repainted and re-carpeted and has new blinds. It's not dodgy and run-down like some places I've seen, and I think it's a steal at $220/week. A few others that caught my attention are some fully refurbished apartments and they have done a very nice job of it. Of course, at a price... they are around $280-$295/week. My budget is $150/week I'll need to find someone to share the apartment with, whichever I eventually decide to get. Preferably a working professional and a non-smoker. If you are looking to share with an easy-going web designer or know of someone who is, email me.
